About CARL

July 2020

Thank you for thinking of the Combined Arms Research Library (CARL) as a possible place to donate your materials. Because of changes to AR 1-100 The Army Gift Program and the high cost of reviewing and processing donated materials CARL will not take unsolicited drop offs of books or other library materials for the general collections.

If you feel your potential gift is of critical research interest to CARL (rare or unique items), please send your name and contact information along with a description or characterization of the material to Archives, or by regular mail to ATTN: Archives, Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library, Eisenhower Hall, 250 Gibbons Avenue, Fort Leavenworth, KS 66027.  We will respond as soon as possible.

Once it has been determined that the CARL would like to accept your donation, an approved proffer letter is required for the CARL to accept a donation.  Please see the proffer letter sample below for an example of what is required.

Complete and sign a proffer letter, then bring the letter along with a list of items, if necessary, to the library circulation desk or mail the letter and list to:

CGSC Field Gift Program Manager

Lewis & Clark Center, Rm 2508

100 Stimson Avenue

Fort Leavenworth, KS 66027

Upon approval by the Gift Acceptance Authority, you will be notified and may coordinate with CARL staff to donate the items.  Items accepted will be accessioned into the automated library system or may eventually be disposed of or offered to other military libraries if appropriate at the CARL’s discretion in accordance with AR 735-17.
