Genealogy: Archival Resources

This guide will help explain the genealogical resources available through the Ike Skelton Combined Arms Research Library and other online sources.

The ISCARL Archives is primarily focused on collecting and maintaining materials from the Command and General Staff College and Fort Leavenworth. As such, the archives is limited in its genealogical-related materials. Below is a list of notable collections the archives maintains, as well as items not in our holdings.

What we have...

  • Class Photos
    • Faculty, staff, and class photographs from the first Infantry and Cavalry School class in 1883 to 1964 when yearbook photos replaced the old system.
  • Class Yearbooks
    • The oldest class yearbook dates to 1907 to commemorate the first class to graduate from the School of the Line. Other early yearbooks in the collection include 1926, 1936, 1938, and 1939. Publication of annual yearbooks began with the class of 1954-1955. The title, The Bell, was first used in the 1958 yearbook.
  • Fort Leavenworth Lamp
    • The archives maintains microfilm copies of the Lamp, the "authorized unofficial publication at Fort Leavenworth, Kan." Years include 1942-1952 and 1971-present.
  • Student Papers
    • Master of Military Art and Science (MMAS) Theses
    • School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) Monographs
    • Command and General Staff College (CGSC) Student Papers (Post-World War II)
    • Command and General Staff School (CGSS) Student Papers (1930-1936)
  • Telephone Directories
    • Fort Leavenworth telephone directories dating from 1907-present.
