CARL: Donations/Gifts

Thank you for thinking of the Combined Arms Research Library (CARL) as a possible place to donate your materials!  The CARL's donation policy is in accordance with AR 1-100 The Army Gift Program.

Please start the potential donation process by contacting the CARL online or at 913-758-3053.

Due to the cost and staff time of reviewing and processing donated materials, along with space and shelving constraints, the library must be selective in what is added to the collections and cannot take unsolicited drop offs of books or other materials.  A review is done prior to beginning the proffer process to ensure the CARL is accepting materials needed for our collections.

If it is determined that the CARL would like to accept your materials, an approved proffer letter and a complete list of items being proffered are required.  Please use the below sample template for an example of what is needed.  All fields should be filled out and the letter should be hand signed.  The CARL staff member working with you on your donation inquiry will provide you with information about where and how to return the completed letter and list of item(s).

Upon approval by the Gift Acceptance Authority, you will be notified and may coordinate with CARL staff to donate the items.  Items accepted will be accessioned into the automated library system or may eventually be disposed of or offered to other military libraries if appropriate at the CARL’s discretion in accordance with AR 735-17.
